Destination ImagiNation teams to go to finals

A team from Rayen Early College Middle School, four teams from Columbiana and one from Beaver Local schools will travel late this month to the Global Finals for Destination ImagiNation.
Rayen Early College Middle School’s team of Sade’ Poindexter, Keelah Bryant, Seanille McRae, Shawanda Jones and Alexis Saunders is going to the Global Finals in Knoxville, Tenn., after placing at the state competition last month with its community service project, Project Bullying.
Destination ImagiNation involves students across the United States and in more than 30 countries.
Its main program is a tournament where student teams from all over the world solve mind-bending challenges. Team members are tested to think on their feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the challenges.
The students on the Beaver Local Middle School team, coached by Keith Meredith, are Alex Gabbert, Claire Meredith, Laurel Meredith, Zach Boni and Katie Barber. It is Challenge B – Spinning a Tale.
Columbiana has two high school teams and two middle school teams. Two of the teams are making their third appearance at Globals, one their second and one is a new team. Three of these teams are headed to the Global Finals in back-to-back years.
A secondary-level Improv team placed second at state. Team members are Nick Baylor, Tommy Couche, Dylan Edwards, Elaina Kimpel, Carlie Merlo and Harman Thind. A secondary-level structure team placed third at state and consists of Clayton Cooper, Nathan Garofalo, Breanne Jeffries, Ryan Marshburn, Cheyenne Carr and Shannon Marshburn.
A middle-level Project Outreach team placed with its service learning project. Team members are Matt Baylor, Jesse Cannella, Drew Makosky, Madelyn Kimpel, Ally Moreschi and Sara Nutter.
Columbiana’s middle-level structure team that placed second at state includes Connor Bosela, Miranda Carney, Brianna Davis, Cassie Mead, Colin Offenburg and Bruce Wiggins.
Teams from Springfield Local High School, Howland Middle School and Niles Middle School are also going to the Global Finals.
