Canfield student goes to Norway

Remi Suyin Mikan, a sixth-grader at Canfield Village Middle School, will be one of four youth traveling to Norway this summer as part of CISV of Northeast Ohio.

The organization is a global community of dedicated volunteers, creating opportunities for all ages to experience the excitement and enrichment of cultural diversity through educational programs. Each selected individual will represent the USA and the local Northeast Ohio chapter.

Traveling to an international village in Norway will be Mikan, Sekay Whitworth, of Atlanta, Ga., Cooper Anderson of Hudson, Ohio, and Michael Shade of Moreland Hills, Ohio. The group will be led by leader Nick Miele, of Mineral Ridge.

That group will be one of 12 delegations of 11-year-olds each from a different country spending one month together.

Youngstown will once again host children from around the world for the “Hands Around the World” one month-long camp. CISV will make Youngstown the destination for 60 11-year-old children from 12 countries. Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, El Salvador, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Norway, Sweden and the USA will call Youngstown home from June 22 through July 19.

Each delegation of four will be accompanied by adult chaperones, international staff and junior counselors from Germany, Hungary, Norway, Slovenia, and the USA for a grand total of approximately 70 visitors to Youngstown.
