Canfield girls track team ninth at Optimist
The Canfield girls track team scored 35.5 points and finished ninth at last weekend’s Optimist Meet at Fitch High School. The meet featured 28 teams and was won by Green (78), with Shaker Heights (70) taking second.
The Cards were especially strong in the relays, placing in three of the four events.
The quartet of of Devin Foley, Stephanie Carrocce, Katie Richter and Gleichert took third in two relays. In the 4X200, they posted a new school record time of 1:46.17 to take third. In the 4X100, the quartet ran a 50.44 to earn third.
The Cards’ 4X800 relay team of Emma Lunne, Nicole Tiberio, Jen Love and Jillian Smith posted a time of 10:01.28 to finish fifth. Individually, Gleichert took fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.94, Smith (2:21.43) was second in the 800 and Leanna Hartsough (5-2) took third in the high jump.
For the boys team, the 4X400 relay squad of Treavor English, Steven Hamilton, Jon Hutnyan and Tyler Mettille finished third with a time of 3:37.32. Hutnyan ran a time of 2:01.39 to finish eighth in the 800.
