Canfield Community Band preps for summer

The Canfield Community Concert Band will open its summer season Tuesday with a performance at Copeland Oaks Retirement Community in Sebring.

Other performances this summer include at the Shepherd of the Valley on Western Reserve Road in Poland May 31 and Park Vista Retirement Community of Youngstown June 14. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

Founded in 1976, the Canfield Community Band has grown from 12 players to a concert band averaging 52 members who volunteer their time and talents to bring musical entertainment to area residents. Band members represent a wide range of ages and occupations and come from a four-county area.

The band rehearses on Tuesday evenings and is open to anyone that plays a band instrument and wishes to enjoy playing with a group.

The band performs an average of 15 concerts a year at outdoor parks and nursing homes with a formal concert each year at Canfield High School.
