Celebrate Memorial Day with parade

The Austintown Memorial Day Parade is scheduled for May 30 at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will follow a route from Marc’s parking lot, at the corner of Mahoning Avenue and Idaho Road, to the Fitch High School Veterans Memorial.

A commemorative service, sponsored by the Austintown Memorial American Legion Post 301 and the Austintown VFW Post, will begin at 11 a.m. The guest speaker is Maj. (Ret.) Bruce Montgomery.

Rummage sale today

Wickliffe Christian Church, 3939 Potomac, is hosting a Spring Rummage Sale today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be quilted items, a bake sale, lunch counter and a Chinese auction.

Balloon release to remember

The Mahoning County-Youngstown Chapter of the Bereaved Parents of the USA will host a memorial balloon release at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Avenue in Youngstown today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This balloon release is to honor the children who have passed away.

MCCTC to host summer camp

The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will give students preparing for grades seven through nine the chance to explore new careers this summer with its annual summer camp June 20-24 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Snacks are provided daily and a special luncheon will be at the end of the week.

Knights of Columbus to host steak dinner

Knights of Columbus Bishop Fewnwick Council 13586 is sponsoring a steak fry May 21 at the Pacentrano Club in Youngstown from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The cost is $15 for a strip steak dinner with sides and refreshments. A cash bar will be available. There will be a 50/50 raffle along with a Chinese auction.

Local church hosts clothing drive today

First United Methodist Church of West Austintown, 6749 Mahoning Ave., is hosting a community clothing drive today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Italian Fest scheduled for July

The Italian Fest is set for July 29-31 in downtown Youngstown.

Festivities will begin July 29 at 5 p.m. with opening ceremonies, followed by the Miss Italian Youngstown Pageant at 7 p.m. The Miss Italian Youngstown beauty and talent pageant has become a tradition at the Greater Youngstown Italian Fest. The pageant includes modeling, speaking about Italian heritage and performing a talent.

There will be continuous entertainment and fun activities, including Morra and a pasta eating contest. A little King and Queen will also be crowned.

Dinner to help IHM parishoner

The Knights of Columbus, Council 3930, are sponsoring a benefit spaghetti dinner today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Center, 4500 Norquest Blvd,, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

All dinners include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread and butter, dessert and beverage.

The cost is $6.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 6-9 are and children under 6 eat free.

Proceeds will benefit an IHM parishioner whose house was badly damaged by fire. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction.

May flower for moms

The Austintown branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is hosting May Flowers for mothers and others throughout the month of May.

Master Park expands two locations

Master Park is expanding his martial arts studio to include the space used by the old Boardman Oreck store. Children, ladies, seniors and families can exercise and rent this space for birthday parties or educational programs.

Master Park is also expanding the Austintown Master Park martial arts programs.

PS2 day at library

The Austintown branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County is hosting video gaming for teens in grades seven through 12 May 31 at 2:30 p.m.

Three local Nemenz IGA’s will participate in a national cause marketing initiative to raise money for Wounded Warrior Project.

Locations include 2980 McCartney Road, Youngstown; 8 N. Broad St., Canfield; and 655 Creed St., Struthers.

During this national promotion, from May 27 through Sept. 5, IGA will donate 10 cents from the sale of every specially-marked case of IGA brand water to Wounded Warrior Project, an organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors.

The Greater Youngstown Italian Festival scheduled for July 29-31 in downtown Youngstown is accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year.

Applications for scholarships are also available for students of Youngstown State University. Deadline for applications is June 1.

Boat safely this season

A boating safety class will be offered today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Birch Hill Cabin.

Ohio law requires that anyone born after Jan. 1, 1982 who wishes to operate a watercraft over 10 HP must successfully complete an approved boating course or proficiency exam.

St. Elizabeth’s hosts May golf outing

St. Elizabeth Health Center will host its fourth annual Trauma Service Golf Outing May 22 at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Hubbard.

Registration will begin at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The cost is $75 per single player or $300 per foursome and includes golf, cart, prizes and food. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Registration deadline is Thursday. The event will support trauma center outreach and injury prevention programs.
