Youngstown to host economic summit

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown has been selected to host an international economic conference this fall.

The nonprofit East-West Center, which Congress established in 1960 to promote ties between the U.S. and Asia-Pacific regions, chose Youngstown as the site of one of three pre-summit conferences leading up to November’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.

“The fact we’ve been recognized as a city to host this event ... that in itself is substantial,” said Eric Planey, vice president of international business attraction at the Youngstown/ Warren Regional Chamber.

The conference will take place at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration from Sept. 27 to 29.

Planey said the event not only will host more than 100 business professionals, but also provide Youngstown an opportunity to showcase itself on an international stage.
