Youngstown man gets prison term for October shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man will spend the next two and a half years in prison after entering into a plea agreement with prosecutors in a shooting in 2010.

Covey K. Salinas of Madison Avenue was set to go on trial before Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court this week for two counts of aggravated assault, but reached a deal with prosecutors before the trial started.

Salinas was sentenced to the penitentiary immediately after reaching the plea agreement.

Salinas was convicted of shooting Jerome G. Miller, 21, of Youngstown, in the face and abdomen Oct 10. Miller was found semiconscious at an apartment on Glenwood Avenue and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he eventually recovered, police said.
