Seeds rule at Div. II tennis meet

Results mirrored the seeding for the most part on the first day of the OHSAA sectional boys tennis tournament at Volney Rogers on Wednesday.
Three of the top four seeds in singles play have qualified for next week’s district tournament in Canton. The fourth has a quarterfinal matchon Saturday to complete the field.
Top-seeded Michael Fredericka of Warren JFK advanced with three victories, and he lost just one game along the way.
Fredericka will meet No. 4 seed Michael Rotar of Cardinal Mooney, who also won three matches on Wednesday, including a thrilling 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 match against David Shoffstall in the quarterfinals.
In the other half of the bracket, No. 2 seed Mitch Maroscher of Salem advanced with three victories, losing only one game.
His opponent will be determined on Saturday morning. No. 3 Tyler Cole of JFK will play Alex Mellott of Lakeview.
The sectional qualifies four singles players and four doubles teams to the district tournament in Canton.
In doubles, all of the four seeded teams advanced.
The top seeded team of Kenny Duncan and Garrett Gardner, from Poland, advanced with two wins, including a 6-0, 6-1 quarterfinal win over the Salem duo of Larry Goontz and Andrew Pietirzak.
They will meet No. 4-seeds James Rossi and John Nader of Warren JFK, who also won two matches, including a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Danny Mitchell and Drake Lohnes of West Branch.
The other half bracket features No. 2 seed Taylor Fredrickson and Jay Linam of Salem, who advanced with two wins, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory over a team from Crestwood in the quarterfinals.
Frederickson and Linam will play Lakeview’s Zach McDivitt and Aaron Paczak in the semifinals.
The Lakeview team won two matches, including a 6-0, 6-1 win over Eric and Jason Shoaf of Cardinal Mooney in the quarterfinals.
