POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Girard and Liberty:
HUBBARD
May 5
Theft: A worker for Circle K, 211 W. Liberty St., held a male shoplifter for police.
Drugs: Police reported finding a bag of suspected marijuana in a booking room at the station.
Attempted burglary: Someone tried to enter a vacant home in the 400 block of Wendemere Drive.
Identity theft: A township woman reported being a fraud victim.
Breaking and entering: A storage shed in the 2000 block of Jones Street was broken into.
May 6
Arrest: Police were to pick up 29-year-old Roy Schimpf, 409 E. Prospect St., Girard, at the Mahoning County Jail. He was wanted on two counts of theft and one of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.
Possible theft: A South Main Street man reported a suspicious person near his vehicle.
Assaults: Six people were in a fight near Princeton Avenue and Walnut Street.
Assault: Police were told of an assault at Hubbard High School, 350 Hall Ave.
May 7
Menacing: A woman told police her former husband stalked her while she was at a Woodland Avenue residence.
Criminal damaging: A man reported vandalism to a piece of rental property he owns in the 400 block of Helen Avenue.
May 8
Harassment: A West Liberty Street woman said her former boyfriend and two other people have been harassing her at work.
Theft: A woman reported items stolen from her vehicle in the 500 block of West Liberty Street.
GIRARD
May 7
Menacing: An East Wilson Avenue woman alleged her daughter had threatened to kill her.
Theft: A $300 global-positioning-system unit was removed from a car in the 20 block of East Second Street.
Trespassing: Gary C. Phillipps, 30, of Belgrade Street, Girard, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after a man reported seeing someone burning copper wiring near West Marshall Road and the Mahoning River. Phillipps was on the property, despite numerous “No trespassing” signs, a report showed.
May 8
Criminal damaging: An apartment in the 200 block of Church Hill Road had damage to a window screen.
Damage: Someone ransacked a vehicle’s glove compartment in the 40 block of Abby Street.
Theft: A woman in the 100 block of West Wilson Avenue reported her son’s $60 bicycle stolen.
Harassment: A Church Hill Road woman told officers another woman continually harasses the accuser in person and via the Internet.
Theft: A GPS device and various compact discs were taken from a car in the 400 block of East Wilson Avenue.
May 9
Burglary: Occurred in the 1700 block of Oak Street. Roughly $5,600 worth of property, including a 32-inch TV, two laptop computers and a snow blower, was stolen.
LIBERTY
May 4
Criminal damaging: Officers charged Dennis Dwan, 20, of 3041 Frederick St., Liberty, with criminal damaging after an employee of a nearby business reported someone had shot at him with a BB gun. The worker was not struck, however.
Theft: A worker for KFC, 3717 Belmont Ave., noticed an undisclosed sum of money missing from a deposit bag.
May 5
Disrupting public services/theft: A telephone company employee discovered someone had cut and stolen cable line from two utility poles on Belmont Avenue.
Domestic violence: Officers took into custody 24-year-old Vincent Kather at his residence, 401 E. Montrose St., Liberty, on a felony count. He also faced three misdemeanor drug charges when, police said, a small quantity of pills and suspected marijuana as well as a suspected marijuana pipe were found.
Menacing: A Girard woman said a man followed her as she drove on Goist Lane.
Possible fraud: An Oakwood Avenue woman reported four monthly $30 unauthorized withdrawals to her account.
Arrest: Officers responded to a woman passed out at a Belmont Avenue store, then arrested 46-year-old Tina D. Hymes, 339 Breaden St., Youngstown, upon discovering she was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court.
Arrest: Authorities responding to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, took 41-year-old Marcy J. Fisher, 38 Bright St., Youngstown, into custody. Fisher was wanted by Mercer County, Pa., police.
Criminal damaging: An elderly James Lane woman noticed that someone had cut phone lines to her home.
May 6
Theft: A woman reported the theft of her purse at a Goldie Road store.
Aggravated menacing: A Townsend Avenue woman said her daughter saw a neighbor pour gasoline on the edge of their property, and that the neighbor made a threatening comment.
Theft/assault: A West Montrose Street woman told police a man grabbed her neck and pushed her before stealing her $100 cellphone.
Arrest: Authorities arrested Roy D. Schimpf, 409 E. Prospect St., Girard, at the Mahoning County Jail. Schimpf was wanted on a charge of obstructing official business.
Arrest: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed 27-year-old Amber R. Hurton, 6194 Downs Road NW, Warren, to township police. Hurton was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court on one count of passing bad checks.
Theft: Ronald W. Martin, 43, of 1471 Turnberry Drive, Boardman, was charged with taking a small knife from Walmart. He also faced misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and impersonating a peace officer after a store official said Martin displayed a badge while being confronted about the theft.
May 7
Burglary: Nothing appeared to be missing from a residence in the 2700 block of Logan Way someone had entered through a basement window.
Theft: An employee with Valley Grocery Wholesale Inc., 1282 Trumbull Ave., discovered money and inventory items had been stolen over time.
Counterfeit: A man used a phony $20 bill to buy groceries at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.
Arrest: Police served a warrant to a 16-year-old township girl wanted by the Trumbull County Juvenile Court on a probation-violation charge.
May 8
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 20 block of Tuttle Drive smashed a vehicle’s driver’s-side window and windshield, causing an estimated $500 in damage.
Burglary: To a home in the 20 block of James Lane. A 13-year-old girl admitted having been at the residence, but said she intended to collect personal property, a report said.
Felonious assault: Raelene M. Diamantes, 41, of 14 Tuttle Lane, Girard, faced a felonious-assault charge when, police said, she admitted having used a knife to slash at the midsection of a man on a bicycle. Diamantes said she was protecting her husband from the man, a report showed.
Arrest: Ronald E. Coman, Jr., 44, of 411 Ravine Drive, Liberty, was charged with violating a protection order after his wife told officers that, despite a temporary protection order, Coman was in a dispute with her and other family members.
May 9
Theft: A car’s rear license plate was removed in the 4100 block of Monticello Boulevard.
