Officials: 2 men arrested in NYC terror probe

NEW YORK (AP) — Two men are in custody in an alleged terror plot against a New York City synagogue.

That’s what a person familiar with the case tells The Associated Press. The person says the men are Americans of Algerian and Moroccan descent who bought or tried to buy guns and a grenade. The person says they could face state terrorism charges.

Two law enforcement officials confirmed the arrests; one of the officials says the FBI was consulted about the case and declined to pursue it.

The three people weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

It isn’t clear what synagogue might have been targeted. Officials were expected to provide more details later today.
