ACTION sponsors reform workshop
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The faith-based community organizing group, ACTION, will sponsor a workshop on educational reform from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Newport Branch of Youngstown Public Library.
Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods will host Dr. Richard Gray, director of community organizing and engagement at the Annenberg Institute, based at Brown University in Providence, R.I., as the presenter.
The Rev. Rob Johnson, ACTION’s education coordinator, said the group’s education task force has formed a partnership with the Annenberg Institute, a national policy-research and reform support organization that promotes quality education for all children, particularly those in urban communities.
Dr. Gray will share the Annenberg Institute’s research on “smart education systems,” those that coordinate educational supports and services wherever they occur (at school, at home, and within the community) to provide children with equitable opportunities and high-quality learning experiences.
For more information, call minister Rose Carter, ACTION’s executive director and lead organizer, at 330-782-7433.
