Canfield’s Mark Stanislaw and Boardman’s Matt Owens each won their first two matches before falling in the third round at Tuesday’s first day of the Division I sectional tennis tournament at Weis Park. No area singles or doubles players advanced to the fourth round. Stanislaw defeated Wooster’s Lucas Burris (6-0, 6-1) and GlenOak’s Tyler Stryffeler (6-4, 6-2) before falling to top-ranked Ross Whittaker of Lake, 6-1, 6-1. Owens beat Lake’s Jeremy Davis (6-3, 6-0) and Jackson’s Nick Mauer (6-1, 6-0) before losing to Green’s Tom Saunders, 6-3, 6-3. Howland’s Robert Ames beat McKinley’s Tom Russell (6-1, 6-0) before falling to Saunders, 6-3, 6-2. Canfield’s Mark Dalvin beat Harding’s Costa Ploumbis, 6-1, 6-0 before falling to Hoover’s Tyler Sarver, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Howland’s Logan Sturgeon beat Fitch’s Devan Patel (6-1, 6-3) before falling to New Philadelphia’s Tobias Reichert 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. In doubles action, Canfield’s No. 1 team of William Brown and Nicholas Debiec defeated Marietta’s Alex Stern and Cody Kriechbaum, 6-3, 6-3, then lost to Lake’s Jared Gergon and Joshua Duerr 6-2, 6-1. The Cardinals’ Tony El-Hayek and Thomas Yankush defeated Louisville’s Anthony Hoover and Adam Sullivan, 6-0, 6-2, then lost to Will Eisenberg and Mike McAndrew of Jackson, 6-0, 6-2. Howland’s John Morello and Andrew Ames beat Boardman’s Nate Higgins and Julian Testa, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, then beat Marietta’s Zach Mullen and William O’Connor, 6-0, 6-3. The Tigers then lost to Eisenberg and McAndrew, 6-0, 6-0.
