Outreach center plans women’s workshop

The Fairview Arts & Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road, will host a women’s workshop from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 21.
The theme this year is “It’s Time To Grow,” and the speakers will cover such topics as low self-esteem, mental and emotional well-being, grief and loss, and the health properties of nature, stress relief and spirituality.
Confirmed session leaders include: Heidi Suraci, a yoga and healthy-eating expert, who will discuss the benefits of cooking from your garden; motivational speaker Marian Wilson, who will lead a session called “What Are You Worth?”, building your self-esteem; and gerontology expert Maureen McCarty, who will lead a session titled “When Our Parents Need Us,” things we need to consider as our parents grow older and need assistance.
Others leading sessions include local author and disability advocate Marie Spencer, who will talk about caring for special-needs children; National Day of Listening participant Pearl Kennedy, who will lead a session on the importance of sharing your story; and there will be a session about how to help children through the grief process and a session on stress relief techniques.

The planning committee of the 2011 “Free To Be Me” workshop includes Marge Diorio, Darla Gingrich, Carla Gipson, Marian Wilson, Maureen Wilson, Julie Palumbo, Bobbie Jean Lott, Jeannette Stone and Kennedy.
The deadline to register is Monday. The event is sponsored by Lost then Found, a nonprofit organization based in Struthers.
