Ohio man dies after falling from 60-foot waterfall

SAGAMORE HILLS, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in northeast Ohio are investigating the death of a 31-year-old man who fell from the top of a 60-foot waterfall in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Park spokeswoman Mary Pat Doorley tells The Plain Dealer in Cleveland that the man and a woman were soaking their feet in water at the lip of Brandywine Falls when both slipped Tuesday afternoon. Doorley says the woman did not go over the edge but could not catch the man.

Rescuers found the body of the Canal Fulton resident several hours later.

Visitors can access the waterfall on the park’s eastern edge using an extensive boardwalk.

Doorley says it’s the second fatality since the falls became part of the national park. A man fell over the boardwalk fence and died in 1995.
