Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Youngstown is collecting monetary donations to support the work of Catholic Charities in the areas impacted by the recent severe storms and tornadoes in the Southern U.S.
Money collected will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA Disaster Relief, the official U.S. Catholic Bishops’ domestic disaster coordinating office.
Checks may be made payable to Catholic Charities-Domestic Disaster Fund, noted for “U.S. Storms Fund,” and sent to: Catholic Charities, Diocese of Youngstown, 144 W. Wood Street, Youngstown, OH 44503.

Probe continues

Police are continuing to investigate a burglary on Applecrest Court. A 21-year-old woman told police she was at work between 2:45 and 11 p.m. Monday and came home to find her flat-screen television, purse, wallet and a tote bag missing, according to reports.
Police said it appears entry was made through the top part of a window that was left open.
Grants awarded
NEW CASTLE, Pa.
State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th, announced that Union Township in Lawrence County was awarded two grants under the state’s Recycling Performance Grant Program for a total of $22,531. The Department of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Performance Grant Program provides incentive to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling.
Fight investigated

Shenango Township Police are investigating a fight that sent one man to the hospital. Police said they went to a house on Savannah Gardner Road on Monday for a reported stabbing.
They said James E.D. Doherty, 29, 530 Shenango Stop Road, and Jeremy A. Smith Sr., 32, 409 Ω E. Reynolds Ave., got into a fight in which a knife and a tire iron were wielded. Doherty was struck numerous times with the tire iron, while Smith suffered four superficial stab wounds to left chest, right chest, left arm and his back. Smith was transported to Jameson Hospital for treatment. Charges are pending.
