Woman arraigned on charges after chase

NEWTON FALLS
A 25-year-old Newton Falls woman was arraigned on four felony charges and four misdemeanor charges Monday following a short vehicle and foot chase Sunday that led to her arrest.
Samantha Pigg of West Broad Street is being held in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $42,500 bond following her appearance in Newton Falls Municipal Court.
Officer Ian Litherland saw Pigg driving a stolen vehicle at about 10:50 p.m. on West Broad Street, chased her in the car and then on foot before arresting her.
The car had been reported stolen earlier, police said. Police didn’t provide details of the burglary but said Pigg was “also implicated in a home break-in.”
A police report says items that were recovered from Pigg and a dumpster included a check book and credit card, bag of crack cocaine, red crow bar, purse and needle.
Pigg did not enter a plea to felony charges — burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of criminal tools and drug abuse — but did plead innocent to misdemeanor charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments, driving under suspension, theft and resisting arrest.
If convicted of the felony charges, she could get as much as 10 years in prison. She returns to court at 10:30 a.m. May 17.
