Pa. teen seeks venue change in slaying trial

YORK, Pa. (AP) — A central Pennsylvania teen charged with killing a law school student claims comments attached to online news stories about the case show he should have his trial moved to another county.

Now-16-year-old Jordan Wallick is accused of shooting 28-year-old University of Pittsburgh law student James Wallmuth III outside a downtown York bar on July 28, 2010.

Prosecutors say Wallick, then 15, and three others were trying to rob Wallmuth when Wallick pulled the trigger.

In a motion Monday, Wallick claimed he can’t get a fair trial on murder charges in York County. Defense attorney Dawn Cutaia cited intense media coverage by the town’s two newspapers and “inflammatory and slanted” comments attached to online stories.

Prosecutors reply that high-profile cases have been tried in the county before.
