WARREN

Aswad Fleming, 22, of West Avenue Northwest, will be arraigned today in Warren Municipal Court on a host of charges filed by Warren police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol for a chase and crash Sunday afternoon that injured a Warren police officer.

Police officer Patrick Hoolihan was treated Sunday at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a suspect crashed into Hoolihan’s cruiser during the chase.

The charges filed against Fleming by Warren police include four counts of felonious assault, three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, and single counts of failure to comply with the orders of a police officer, receiving stolen property, driving under suspension and playing loud music.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol also filed a felonious assault charge against Fleming because he is accused of wrecking into a trooper’s car.

Fleming, 22, was taken into custody by Warren police at 875 Glenwood Ave. NE at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday and remains in jail pending his arraignment.

In addition to damaging the Warren cruiser and the state patrol car, Fleming also damaged a third car, police said.

Fleming was wanted on two warrants at the time Hoolihan attempted to arrest him just northeast of downtown Warren at about 12:45 p.m., Warren police said.

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, which conducted the accident investigation, reported that the collision with Hoolihan’s cruiser occurred on Glenwood Street Northeast when Fleming swerved around a parked car, striking the right corner of Hoolihan’s car, which was beside Fleming.

The vehicle Fleming is accused of driving is a 1994 GMC Suburban. It was reported stolen by its owner earlier Sunday.

Valentino Thomas, of Tod Avenue Southwest, told police he and Fleming had driven home from a night of drinking at a local bar Saturday night, and Thomas allowed Fleming to use his Suburban to drive to Fleming’s girlfriend’s house on Woodbine Avenue Southeast.

Thomas said he told Fleming he would retrieve the Suburban at the girlfriend’s house Sunday and did not give Fleming permission to drive it anywhere else.
