Grand opening

WARREN

Patriot Water Treatment LLC and the city of Warren will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. today for Ohio’s first treatment facility for wastewater from the Marcellus Shale region.

The facility, on Sferra Avenue in the Warren Commerce Park off of North River Road, received an operating permit from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency in December.

The 2.7-acre processing-center removes metals and salts before putting the water into the Warren wastewater treatment system for further processing.

Patriot representatives from Ashtabula, East Liverpool and Steubenville — locations where additional treatment plants are in the works — will also attend the grand opening.

Armed robbery

ELLWOOD CITY, Pa.

Three people entered a home on the 12th Street extension and robbed the occupants at gunpoint, state police in New Castle said.

The robbers, armed with handguns, came in through an unlocked front door. A 28-year-old woman and her 16-year-old brother were watching television in the living room at the time, and the woman’s 5- and 8-year-old children were asleep in a bedroom.

The robbers forced the woman and the teenager to lie on the living room floor, threatening to kill them several times. They duct-taped their hands, then ransacked the house. The robbers took two game systems, a laptop, two cell phones and an undetermined amount of cash, police said.

The victims were able to free themselves afterward and call for help. There were no injuries.

State police are asking anyone with information to call 724-598-2211.
