Driver flees after hitting, killing Ohio deputy

TURTLECREEK, Ohio (AP) — Authorities in southwest Ohio are searching for the driver who struck and killed a sheriff’s deputy after a chase and then ran away.

Lt. Mike Sanders of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says the fleeing vehicle hit the Warren County deputy around 2 a.m. Monday in Turtlecreek Township, about 35 miles northeast of Cincinnati. Sanders says the speeding car lost control and struck the man as he was putting out stop sticks near an intersection on U.S. Route 42. The male driver fled on foot.

Police had started chasing the suspect about 20 minutes earlier in nearby Franklin, and the suspect hit a separate sheriff’s cruiser before striking the deputy. Sanders said he didn’t know how the chase began.

Officials aren’t releasing the deputy’s name. No other injuries were reported.
