3 injured in crash of plane headed to Youngstown/Warren Regional


RAVENNA

Three people were seriously injured when their small plane crashed in Ravenna en route from Canal Fulton to Youngstown.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. in a field east of North Chestnut Street, south of state Route 14, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Ravenna Post said.

The plane had engine trouble and the pilot was searching for a safe place to land when he hit the top of a tree and crash-landed, police said.

The pilot, Thomas Bell, 63, of Stow, Ohio, was taken by helicopter to Akron City Hospital.

One passenger, Neil Semple, 37, of Ravenna, was taken by ambulance to Robinson Memorial Hospital. The second passenger, Dawn Semple, 40, also of Ravenna, was taken by helicopter to Akron City Hospital.
