Warren officer injured in cruiser chase and crash
WARREN
Police officer Patrick Hoolihan was treated Sunday at Trumbull Memorial Hospital after a suspect crashed into Hoolihan’s cruiser during a chase Sunday afternoon.
Aswad D. Fleming, 22, of West Avenue Northwest, was taken into custody at 875 Glenwood Ave. NE at about 1:15 p.m.
In addition to the crash that injured Hoolihan, Fleming’s vehicle also damaged a cruiser from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and another car, Warren police said.
As of early Monday, Fleming was charged with failure to comply with the orders of a police officer and receiving stolen property, but Warren police were conferring with the Warren prosecutor to determine whether additional charges would be filed.
Fleming was wanted on two warrants at the time Hoolihan attempted to arrest him northeast of downtown Warren at about 12:45 p.m.
The vehicle Hoolihan and other officers chased, a 1994 GMC Suburban, was reported stolen by its owner at 2:54 p.m. Sunday.
Valentino Thomas, of Tod Avenue Southwest, told police he and Fleming had driven home from a night of drinking at a local bar Saturday night, and Thomas allowed Fleming to use his Suburban to drive to Fleming’s girlfriend’s house.
Thomas said he told Fleming he would retrieve the Suburban at the girlfiend’s house on Woodbine Avenue Southeast Sunday and did not give Fleming permission to drive it after Fleming drove it to the girlfriend’s house.
