Police: Man set his mother aflame, held teacher hostage
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A Texas man is accused of trying to sexually assault a teacher while holding her at knifepoint after he set his mother on fire at a nearby apartment complex.
Lubbock police say George James Bradley, 32, was arrested on attempted murder, aggravated assault and attempted aggravated sexual assault charges after the incident this morning at the Rise Academy school.
School officials say it was a random attack. Police say after setting his mother on fire, Bradley ran to the nearby school.
Bradley's mother was listed in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital. Superintendent Richard Baumgartner said he was grazed by the knife after he kicked his office door down to help free the teacher.
Lubbock police spokesman Sgt. Jonathan Stewart says Bradley does not yet have an attorney.
