Ohio police and firefighters are planning events around the state to honor officers killed in the line of duty and simultaneously reaffirm their opposition to a law limiting collective-bargaining rights for public workers.

They plan news conferences today in nearly 20 cities, including Youngstown, Akron, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Toledo.

The events come at the start of national Police Week, remembering those killed on duty.

Jay McDonald, president of the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, says 4 officers were killed in the state last year.

McDonald says fallen officers are at “the forefront in our mind” but first responders also want to draw attention to what he calls an attack by elected leaders.
