Youngstown State University students will distribute $13,500 among four local nonprofit organizations Wednesday.
YSU’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership in the Williamson College of Business Administration received grant funding from the Ohio Campus Compact to Participate in the Pay It Forward program. The program helps students learn how to be engaged citizens and to understand the role philanthropy plays locally.
The four nonprofit organizations receiving the funds are Burdman Group, Inc. for the Sojourner House Domestic Violence Program ($4,500), Meals on Wheels Program of Columbiana ($2,250), Potential Development Program of Youngstown for Occupational Therapy Equipment ($2,250) and Trumbull Community Action Partnership for the Youth Enrichment Services Program ($4,500).
The students reviewed 52 proposals requesting more than $283,000.
Pay It Forward is an academic student philanthropy project sponsored by the Ohio Campus Compact, in collaboration with the Kentucky Campus Compact and the Michigan Campus Compact.
At YSU, the project was designed to engage students who are taking courses in business and nonprofit leadership and to prepare those students for public and private sector careers, according to a news release.
