The Youngstown Area Grocers Association and the Shenango Valley Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the sixth annual Wine & Beer Taste fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.
Proceeds will benefit the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown HIV/AIDS Ministry and the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the Shenango Valley Chamber at 724-981-5880 or by calling the Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown at 330-792-7636, ext. 18. Cost is $50 per ticket or $350 for a table of eight. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
ATHENA speaker

Daisy L. Alford-Smith, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Northeast Ohio, is the keynote speaker at the 19th annual ATHENA Award Dinner at 6 p.m. May 19 at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave.
The event will honor 21 professional Mahoning Valley women for their career accomplishments, community leadership and mentoring other women.
The event is sponsored by Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber and The Vindicator.
Advanced reservations are required by Wednesday by calling 330-744-2131, ext. 12. Chamber or prospective-chamber member cost is $45 or $360 for a table of eight.
Educational program

The Mahoning-Shenango Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the National Planned Giving Council will host an educational program from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.
Bill Sturtevant, senior vice president for principal gifts at the University of Illinois, will present.
The cost is $100 and AFP-PGC members receive a $20 discount. Reservations can be made by calling Lisa Hines, chairwoman of the AFP program committee, at 330-938-7405.
JCPenney award

Eastwood Mall’s JCPenney, headed by Lorrie Helline, store manager, was one of seven individual JCPenney locations to be recognized by CEO Myron Ullman as excellent-performing stores.
One-hundred sixty of the company’s 1,110 stores were chosen for the Chairman’s Awards.

The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber’s Mahoning Valley Safety Council will announce the winner of its 5th Annual Joan Kovach Safety Leadership Award at a luncheon May 11 at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave.
The award is sponsored by City Machine Technologies Inc. of Youngstown and recognizes an individual or company for safety training, operations, funding and communications.
The award is named after Joan Kovach, who along with husband Michael, founded City Machine.
