Girls track team fourth at Reserve Relays

The Boardman High School girls track team took 23 members to the Berlin Reserve Relays and finished fourth.

The shot and discus relays took first place. Giovanna Silvestri, Megan Howard and Allysia Milligan threw a combined total of 92-6 æ in the shot put relay and Silvestri, Howard and Jenni Burnett threw 291-5 to lead the discus relay team.

Taking second place was the 4X1600-meter relay team of Daisy Corso, Kaitlyn Emery, Sarah Craven and Georgia Kasamias, running 26:35.88. Brittany Bailing jumped a season-best of 4-6 to place third by herself in the high jump relay.

The distance medley team ran 16:20.87, placing third and consisted of Anya Bolger, Andrah Toney, Emily Gabriele and Chelsea Dunn.

“This is always a fun meet because it’s all relays and a lot of girls who go to this meet aren’t always in our bigger invitationals. They took home a lot of ribbons on this night and were very excited in how well they did and so was the coaching staff,” said Boardman coach Denise Gorski.

On April 30, 18 members of the team traveled on an overnight trip to compete in Columbus at the Gary Smith Invitational. The team scored 49.5 points to finish seventh in a field of 16 schools from the Columbus and Cincinnati area.

Giovanna Silvestri had the highest finish for the team, placing second in the shot put with a toss of 35-5.

Howard placed third in the discus with a season-best toss of 107-2. Tori Moore ran a season-best time of 5:28.63 in the 1600 to finish third.

“This was a great meet and gave our girls a chance to get out of our area and compete against other areas of the state. I am very proud of how they excelled at this meet, finishing seventh in a very tough field,” said Gorski.

“I’m also proud of how they conducted themselves the entire weekend as this was our overnight trip for the outdoor season. It gave these girls a chance to really bond together as teammates and that showed in their performances at the meet.”
