East JROTC takes flight
Staff report
youngstown
Thirty-seven East High School Panthers boarded a C-130 Aircraft from the Vienna Airbase and took off into the Wild Blue Yonder.
All 37 students are members of East High School’s Army JROTC program. Part of the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is to give high-school cadets the opportunity to explore what the United States Military has to offer.
The 910th Airlift Wing, at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna, was gracious enough to authorize the JROTC program the opportunity to take an orientation flight.
This type of flight was made available so students could experience the difference between a commercial jetliner and a military aircraft. Students found that instead of a typical reclining aircraft seats, the C-130 uses web seats. They were required to wear earplugs to protect their ears from the loud engine noise.
The plane’s crew chiefs inspected the plane both inside and visually out the windows; students learned some aspects about the crew chief’s job.
Students were happy to have had this opportunity for military flight. Cadets expressed their thanks and gratitude to the flight crew.
The following students participated in this event: Destiny Hardy, Adrianna Ross, Lo’ve Workman, Reginald Daniels, Satavia Douglas, Melina Kline, Pablo Valentin, Andre Holloway, Angel Cosme, Orenzo Walker, Lakisha Chandler, Tyler Harvey, Jekiel Rodriguez, Suntierra Dudley, Montel Craft, Allen Schulte, Nazeer Duncan, Jocelyn Askew, Anton Wiggins, Alaya Crockett, Tanisha Lopez, Lisiyaidilly Flores, Rhonda Johnson, Daylyn Blair, Darrien Dozier, William Boylen, Mathew Boylen, Chelsey Boylen, Dante’ Wells, Joshua Morales, Jerry Kennedy, Lavante Perry, Joshua Moore, Erica Rowe, Aleia Marshall, Luis Guzman, and Jonathan Borrero.
