On April 21, Dobbins Elementary celebrated its 29th year of an Easter tradition – the kindergarten egg hunt.

Parents, grandparents, and younger brothers and sisters of the kindergartners all gathered near the playground of the school that Thursday morning to welcome the students to their Easter festivities.

Principal Cheryl Borovitcky chatted with the guests before the hunt began, sharing with parents, “The kids are definitely ready for spring break, but they’re excited for this, too. It’s an annual event and it’s become a really important tradition here at Dobbins.”

Teacher Elaine Fabrizi, who has planned the kindergarten egg hunt since its creation, made the whole day an Easter extravaganza for her students. Before the event even began, the kindergartners had already finished a bunny math lesson, where they charted and graphed numbers, read an Easter egg book together, and did some bunny-hop dancing.

“There is nothing that can keep the Easter bunny from visiting Dobbins. Whether there’s rain, snow, or shine, we’ve still held our event every year,” Fabrizi shared.

At 10 a.m., the kindergartners were released from their classrooms to the school’s playground to start their egg hunt. For the students’ younger siblings, a slower-paced toddler egg hunt was offered adjacent to the playground.

After finding every treasured egg, the students gathered to greet the Easter bunny and take a photo.

Reflecting on another successful year, Fabrizi sees no end in sight for the egg hunt.

“There is an innocence about Easter that I’ve always liked, that has made it so fun to plan for 29 years. Mostly though, it makes the kids happy, which is all that matters.”
