Boys track squad falls to McKinley
The Boardman Boys track team concluded its home schedule with a 70-67 setback to Canton McKinley on April 26.
The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by seniors Alex Scott and Eddie Adu-Poku and freshmen Alan Burns and Mark Hadley in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 8:37.
Senior Clayvon Finch placed second in the 110-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.2.
In the 100-meter dash, Spartan sophomore Nathan Jones placed first in 10.7, which was a personal best for him. The Spartans were victorious in the 4x200-meter relay with the team of Jones, freshman Ivan Adu-Poku, senior Nick Buonavolanta and junior Michael Moxley in a time of 1:31.8.
In the 1600-meter run, freshman Mark Hadley took first with a time of 4:41. He was followed by Adu-Poku in a time of 4:44. Moxley finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.6. In the 800-meter run, the Spartans swept the event with Eddie Adu-Poku in first at 2:06, Hadley in second at 2:10 and Scott in third at 2:11.
In the 200-meter dash, Jones had another personal-best race, taking second in 22.3. He was followed by Ivan Adu-Poku who set a new freshman record in the event with a time of 22.7. The 3200-meter run was won by Hadley in 10:25; Eddie Adu-Poku was third with a time of 10:46.
In the field events, junior John Kuczek won the shot put with a throw of 45-10 æ. Senior Luis Salomon was third with a heave of 43-1. Junior Brian Linsley placed second in the discus with a throw of 142-3, while in the pole vault, senior Corey Zell finished second with a vault of 9-0 and sophomore Fletcher Dunham took third at 6-6.
In the long jump, sophomore Allen Starkey took second with a leap of 19-5. In the high jump, senior Leandre Jackson finished first at 5-9.
