Report: Avon finds bribery evidence
NEW YORK
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that an internal investigation by direct-sales cosmetics company Avon Products Inc. has uncovered evidence of wrongdoing by its employees in several additional countries.
Avon began investigating possible bribery in China in 2008 and later said it expanded the probe.
Spokeswoman Jennifer Dwyer Vargas declined to comment on the investigation or on the report the Journal posted online late Wednesday. She said Avon continues to cooperate with government agencies investigating the matter.
The Wall Street Journal said it was citing someone familiar with the investigation.
Separately, in a regulatory filing Tuesday, Avon said it had fired four employees it placed on leave last month in connection with the investigation, including three top executives in China and the former head of global internal audit and security.
