A home raid on Deerfield Avenue Wednesday yielded heroin, marijuana and what was likely cocaine.

Warren police and the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force conducted the raid after a two-month investigation, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV. Guns, ammunition and cash were also found in the home.

James Anderson, 36, was charged with heroin trafficking and weapons charges.

Fraud conviction

A Youngstown man was convicted on one count of fraud Wednesday.

Johnathan Tepper pleaded guilty and will be sentenced in July.

Investigators say Tepper collected more than $235,000 by selling cell phones he illegally obtained from a business, according to a report by The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

Sculptures donated by YSU trustee

Harry Meshel, a Youngs-town State University trustee and a jazz fan, is donating a sculptures of three legendary musicians to YSU’s Jazz Studies program in the Dana School of Music.

Meshel, also former president of the Ohio Senate, will donate the sculptures at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Butler Institute of American Art. The works, by artist Ed Dwight, depict Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis.

The sculptures are part of Dwight’s “Jazz: An American Art Form,” a series of more than 70 bronzes that depict the evolution of jazz.

Parade, Family Day

YOUNGSTOWN

Warriors Inc. will host a Unity in the Community Parade and Family Day at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The parade will start at Market Street and Midlothian Boulevard and travel north. It will conclude at the HOPE building, 2733 Market St.

Family Day will be in the Mahoning County South Side Annex parking lot, 2801 Market St., after the parade. Included are singing, dancing, poetry, games, food and more.

Rotary conducting collection drive

CANFIELD

The Canfield Rotary is conducting a clothing and household items collection drive from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Canfield Village Middle School parking lot, 42 Wadsworth St. Donors are being asked to bring usable clothing and shoes and functioning household items, which charities will use to help needy people.

Among the items accepted will be furniture, beds, bed frames and carpeting without stains, odors or tears. Curtains, kitchen items, Tupperware, toys and luggage will also be accepted.

The drive is co-sponsored by Canfield Township and the Mahoning County Recycling Division.

Sales planned

POLAND

Two local nonprofit organizations will have trash-and-treasure sales Saturday. The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Poland will have a sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Poland Masonic Lodge on state Route 170, near Dobbins Road.

The Poland Junior Women’s Club will have a sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on the corner of U.S. Route 224 and Shawbutte Street. A variety of items will be available at both sales, such as clothing, purses, books, toys and furniture.
