Saturday is a big day for Youngstown City Schools students who applied for the district’s newest programs.
Auditions for Visual Performing Arts and interviews for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will be at Chaney High School. These sessions will run from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. Students must arrive no later than 3:15 p.m.
Approximately 400 students have applied for the Visual Performing Arts programs. Students may bring music, instruments or portfolios to the audition. A specialized team for vocal, instrumental, dance and visual art will conduct the auditions and rate the student’s performance or presentation.
More than 260 students have applied for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program showing interest in the robotics and pre-engineering/aerospace programs.
Students will be interviewed to determine their interest level in the STEM program. Student report cards as well as mathematics and science testing results will also be taken into consideration.
The selection committees will make their decisions within the next three weeks and will inform students and their parents of the results by the end of May.
