Pa. man waives radio show call drug charge hearing

GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — A radio show phone conversation about drug use turned out to be a bad call for a Pennsylvania man.

Twenty-five-year-old Michael Hegland waived a preliminary hearing today on drug charges prompted by his phone call to a Pittsburgh radio station’s morning show.

Police in Irwin say Hegland called WXDX-FM in March about a citation he received for not changing the address on his driver’s license. Investigators say he joked about being high during the call.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Hegland showed up at the police station a short time later to show he’d completed address change paperwork to have the citation dropped. But after hearing about Hegland’s call police searched his vehicle, finding the drugs and a pipe.

A phone message for Hegland was not immediately returned today.
