Group plans cleanup event in Niles

Avenue and Main, a community enhancement citizens group, has scheduled its first “Community Clean and Sweep” from 9 a.m. till noon Saturday.

Cindy Weddell, one of the organization’s founding committee members, said at least 100 people have signed up to pick up trash and sweep sidewalks. Volunteers will pick up litter and sweep sidewalks at Main, State and Federal streets, and Robbins Avenue.

“We’re trying to get the main entrances to the city cleaned up,” Weddell said.

Weddell said local businesses have donated gloves and trash bags, and that Avenue and Main plans to conduct the clean and sweep regardless of weather conditions. “We’ll be out there rain or shine,” Weddell said.
