A South Side shooting and a robbery and assault of a 61-year-old West Side woman kept city police busy Monday night.
Officers were sent to the 800 block of East Florida Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. They found a 21-year-old Boardman man sitting on the curb, saying he had been shot.
The victim told police he and a female friend were driving on South Avenue near East Philadelphia Avenue and saw a group of about 10 young men crossing the street. He told police the group stared at them as they drove by, then one of the men pulled out a gun and began firing at the car.
The man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center by ambulance for treatment of a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Police also were sent to the 400 block of Richland Avenue at 11 p.m. Monday in response to a call of an armed robbery of a woman, 61. The woman told police a man wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and ski mask came into her home, holding a gun and demanding her purse.
The woman said the man grabbed her purse as she grabbed it at the same time, and they began to struggle over it. The man struck the woman in the back of her head with the gun and took the purse, police said.
The purse contained a $674 check and prescription drugs.
The woman told police she may have been set up by members of her family with drug-addiction problems.
