YOUNGSTOWN

Police are investigating a shooting and two robberies reported in various parts of the city within a 24-hour period Sunday.

A 32-year-old South Side man was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday with multiple gunshot wounds after a disagreement outside a bar on Hylda Avenue near Market Street. The man is expected to recover from his injuries.

The victim told police he was stuck in traffic on Hylda between Market and Trenton Avenue after leaving the Deja Vue bar. He said a man with whom he is familiar traveling in a car behind his became agitated at the lack of movement and approached his vehicle. The victim told police the two men started to argue.

The victim told police the aggressor accused him of reaching for something in his car and then said “bet you move this [explicative] now” before firing multiple shots into the car. The victim was hit three times in the gunfire.

Reports say traffic cleared quickly after the shots rang out and the man was able to drive himself to the hospital for treatment.

The shooter has not been apprehended.

A taxi driver told police a man attempted to rob him on the North Side about the same time the shooting took place on the South Side.

The cabdriver told police he picked up a man on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in front of some apartments about 2:43 a.m. and was asked to drive the man to the South Side. The driver said the man, who was in the back seat, changed his mind and asked to be brought back to the North Side.

The driver told police the man grabbed the back of his head in the 1100 block of Burlington Avenue, forced him forward and demanded all his money while struggling with him.

The assailant got out of the cab and tried to get in the front driver’s seat. The cab driver, however, managed to speed away leaving the would-be thief in the street.

A 51-year-old man living on Oak Street Extension on the East Side told police he was the victim of a home invasion at 1:25 p.m. Sunday.

The man told police two men knocked on his door and when he answered they produced a small silver handgun and entered the house. The men threatened the homeowner and began searching the house.

The resident told police the men found $40 then ran from the house heading down Jacobs Road.

Neither man has been apprehended.
