BOARDMAN
The township administrator met with members of the fire department Monday morning to discuss a proposal to move fire prevention employees, a promoted position, to fire suppression, firefighters.
A memorandum of understanding between the township administration and fire department is expected to be reached today.
The meeting was part of ongoing discussion about staffing and overtime costs in the fire department.
The administration recently lowered minimum staffing requirements to six firefighters, because of concern about overtime costs to meet the minimum staffing requirement of nine firefighters.
If the fire prevention employees are moved to fire suppression, there will be more firefighters available to try to keep staffing levels above the minimum.
