ELECTION UPDATE: New Poland schools levy fails; renewal OK'd

In Poland, the school district's 4.9 mill additional levy failed, capturing just 42.7 per of the vote, though the district's 3.6 mill renewal levy was approved with 57.7 percent in favor.

The township's 2 mill renewal levy easily was approved with 59.3 percent in favor, while the township's joint fire district's 1 mill additional levy was approved by 16 or .36 percent of 1 percent. The provisional ballots have yet to be counted but Mahoning County Board of Election officials said they doubted there are enough to change the outcome.

If the margin of victory remains at one-half of 1 percent or less, the levy will go to an automatic recount.
