A whole new set of holes

You could think that starting our second year of Greatest at a muni course would set minimal expectations. Then you hear the legacy of great players who called Henry Stambaugh Golf Course home since it opened almost a century ago. Then you stand on the No. 1 tee, where we start Year 2 of the Greatest.

At 350ish yards from the tip, you notice two things on the tee — a tree as old as the course and as big as its legacy shapes your drive from right to left.

You also see a trail of gullies and valleys that make ideal landing areas hard to come by.

Safe landing areas rest at 230 yards and 300 yards, but you have to be precise.

Trees also guard the green, as does a well-placed bunker for any thin approach shots.

As a par-4, the No. 1 is called by some the shortest par-5 in the Valley.
