Jenna Modic had a home run, a double and three RBIs for Poland (12-2), which finished its weekend in the Prebis Memorial tournament on a losing note to the state’s top-ranked Div. II team, DeSales (15-1). Adriana Sikora went 3-for-3 with a double and scored twice. In the slugfest, DeSales out-hit the Bulldogs, 12-11.

Erin Gabriel (8-1) struck out 12 during her three-hitter against Ohio’s No. 4-ranked in Div. I team, Central Crossing (15-1). In the bottom of the sixth, Kalie Benson had a two-out double to score Modic before Chelsea McCree’s single scored Benson.

Poland 11, Elyria 6

LaGRANGE

Poland trailed 6-0, entering the bottom of the fourth when the Bulldogs sent 13 batters to the plate to produce eight runs against the No. 2 ranked Div. I team in the state, Elyria (9-4). After Poland scored its first run of the inning, Meredith Testa started a seven-run rally with a two-out single to right center.

Howland 10, Canton GlenOak 0

STRONGSVILLE

Hayley Marchio had a seven-strikeout, two-hitter while Tori McCormick had a double and single and four RBIs for Howland. Marchio walked one. Also for the Tigers, Emily Price had a double and two singles and two RBIs, Christina Brindley and Carmella Ruberto each had two RBIs and Alyse March had two singles

Strongsville 5, Howland 3

STRONGSVILLE

Katie Mundson and Karli Terlop had a pair of singles for Strongsville (11-4). Tori McCormick had a double and two RBIs and Price had two doubles for Howland (10-3).

Stow 6, Mooney 2

STOW

Three suicide squeeze bunts in the fifth and sixth innings helped Stow (13-3) break a 2-2 tie. Katrina Larson tripled and singled for Mooney.

Kent Roosevelt 3, Mooney 1

STOW

With two outs in the fifth, Kent Roosevelt scored three runs on doubles by Caiti Overholt, while Jessica Stevens and Megan Nichols added an RBI single. For Mooney (11-8), Marissa Gorvet had an RBI double and Angela Penza and Jamie Clausen had two hits apiece.

Ursuline 10, Mount Notre Dame 3

CINCINNATI

Nicholette Maderitz threw a two-hitter over the first five innings before being relieved by McKenzie Stimpert at the Cincinnati Ursuline Invitational. Of Ursuline’s 12 hits, Anny Carrol had three singles, while Maderitz had a triple, double and three RBIs. Also for the Irish, Marina Bermann and Erin Vukovich had two hits and two RBIs apiece.

In her first varsity start, Vukovich (1-0) allowed three hits and no walks during the five-inning game. Macey Gunther had a triple and two singles, while Vukovich had a double and single and two RBIs for Ursuline (10-7). Also for the Irish, Kelli Kolenich had two hits and two RBIs and Brianna Curd had a double, a single and two RBIs.

Springfield 10-1, Newton Falls 0-14

NEW MIDDLETOWN

Madison Grover had three hits and Nicole Casilini had two for Springfield (5-8) in the opener. Elyssa Burkey tossed a two-hitter. In the second game, Newton Falls’ Bailey Shade struck out 17 batters and had two hits. Jayme Romanchuk, Jessica Benetis and Kaitlyn Gumina also had two hits apiece for Newton Falls (4-8).

Akron SVSM 4, Struthers 1

STRUTHERS

Winning pitcher Christen Hoffman struck out six batters and had two hits. Meghan Weber doubled for SVSM (6-8). For the Wildcats, Jess Ditman and Alexa Bayus each had two hits including doubles. Mandy Ditman also doubled.

Western Reserve 4, Struthers 1

STRUTHERS

Winning pitcher Sissy Stubbs tossed a four-hitter, striking out six. She also had two hits. Cassie Burchett had three hits including a double while Chelsea Bogden had two hits including a double for the Blue Devils (14-5). Stubbs, Maggie Stubbs, Gaby Stubbs, April Lude and Savannah Ruby also had two hits. For the Wildcats (8-11), Ashley Hefferon had two doubles while Katie Gue allowed one earned run.

Akron SVSM 15, Western Reserve 13

STRUTHERS

Maggie Stubbs’ three hits included a homer and triple. She scored three runs. Chelsea Palumbo’s five hits included a double while April Lude had two doubles. Sissy Stubbs, Chelsea Bogden and Hannah Mowery also had doubles. Ashlee Unrue had four hits including a double for SVSM.
