McDonald boys win Poland meet

The McDonald High boys team and St. Vincent-St. Mary’s girls squad won the 16th Poland Invitational track and field meet on Saturday.
McDonald had 71 points to runner-up Fitch’s 63. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary was third with 56.
For the girls, SVSM had 83. Fitch was girls runner-up with 80 followed by third-place Reynoldsburg (68).
Jermayne Brooks of Struthers and Reynoldsburg’s Destinee Gause were running MVPs and top Iron Bulldogs were McDonald’s Miles Dunlap and Jennifer Bjelac of Newton Falls.
Dunlap won the 300 hurdles (39.91), was runner-up in the long jump (20-05.5) and placed third in the 110 hurdles (15.08).
Bjelac won the long jump in 17-11.25, was runner-up in the 100 hurdles (15.26) and third in the 300 hurdles (48.19).
McDonald’s Matthias Tayala and Fitch’s Ali Tolich and were field MVPs.
Tayala won the shot put (57-01.25) and discus (195-01) while Tolich won the discus (144-11) and placed second in the shot put (40-02.75).
Brooks won the 100 in 11.08, was runner-up in the 200 (22.49) and ran on two of the Wildcats’ third-place relays: 4x100 (44.86) and 4x200 (1:33.39).
In the 200, Brooks was behind winner Nathan Jones of Boardman in 22.45.
Fitch’s 4x200 team of Jay Jakovina, Tarise Wolfe, Rob Venters and Waylan Andrews won in 1:29.51. Andrews also won the 400 in 49.11 and anchored the Falcons’ 4x400 squad (3:28.23).
South Range’s Ryan Roush won the 3200 in 9:36.95 and Struthers’ Arnaldo Morales jumped 6-6 to win the high jump.
Poland’s Darius Patton was second in the 100 in 11.35.
Gause won the 100 (12.09) and 200 (25.65) and also aided Reynoldsburg’s winning 4x400 in 4:05.30.
Newton Falls’ Destiny Prusky won the high jump (5-6) and was third in the 100 hurdles (15.99).
Chaney’s Shatasia Walker won the 100 hurdles in 15.07, Leetonia’s Clarissa Perkins was second in the discus (130-04) and Poland’s Carolyn Balzano was third in the 200 (27.04).
Fitch’s Jen Shiley won the 300 hurdles (43.95) as well as aiding the Falcons’ second-place 4x200 and third-place 4x100 relays along with teammates Theresa Scott, Kaity Shiley and Jenna Yacovone.
