Strong winds pull cruise ship from Florida dock

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Strong winds from a passing storm in central Florida separated a Carnival cruise ship from its dock at Cape Canaveral.

Officials say storms rolling through the area Wednesday afternoon pulled the Carnival Pride from its moorings at the Port Canaveral dock. The ship had stopped for a day-long port call during its seven-day voyage from Baltimore.

Carnival spokesman Vance Gulliksen says crew and some guests were aboard the ship when the wind gust hit, but no one was injured. The ship was returned to the dock, where it remained this morning. Carnival says it is not clear when the Pride will leave the port.

The cruise line apologized in a statement for “any inconvenience this incident may have caused its guests.”

The Pride can accommodate 2,680 guests.
