Pittsburgh man jailed in abandoned baby carjacking

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A Pittsburgh man has been jailed on charges he endangered a 6-week-old baby that he abandoned in the street after removing the child from a vehicle he was allegedly carjacking.

Robert Mickens, 19, was arraigned Wednesday night on theft and reckless endangerment charges.

The baby’s mother tells police she had put her child in the vehicle and was walking toward the vehicle’s front door when a man in a hooded sweat shirt jumped into the vehicle and drove away about 4 p.m.

As she dialed 911 to report the carjacking with her child inside the vehicle, police say the woman noticed that the child had been removed and left in its car seat in the street.

Police say they arrested Mickens in the vehicle a short time later.
