28 people indicted in drug-trafficking ring between Youngstown, NY and San Diego

YOUNGSTOWN — Federal authorities and local police today announced indictments against 28 people from Youngstown, New York City and San Diego, involved in a drug-trafficking ring that has been in operation for years.

FBI officials said the suspects bought and sold crack cocaine, cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine, resulting in the largest seizure of methamphetamine in Ohio’s history.

The ring has been directly linked to Mexican drug cartels, FBI officials added.

Mayor Jay Williams and police Chief Jimmy Hughes said getting those drugs off the street helps curb crime in general.

The police worked with the FBI at the state and federal level in the investigation.

Nine of the 28 have been arrested, but the rest are still at large, many of them in Youngstown.

U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach is urging those listed in the 101-count indictment to turn themselves in.
