The executive committee of the Ohio Board of Education is recommending the state’s associate superintendent of curriculum and assessment as interim superintendent.

Stan Heffner will need to be confirmed by the full board at its April meeting. The panel made its recommendation Tuesday, two weeks after Superintendent Deborah Delisle (announced her resignation, saying she had been told by Gov. John Kasich’s staff that the board would vote to replace her if she did not leave.

The executive committee also agreed to handle the search for Delisle’s permanent replacement on its own, rather than hiring an outside search firm.

Heffner has worked in education in South Dakota, where he became the state’s youngest high school principal, and in Ohio since the mid-1980s, including 15 years as superintendent of the Madison school district.
