Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted has appointed former state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood to a vacant seat on the Trumbull County Board of Elections. Harwood will complete the unexpired term of Democrat Ralph Infante of Niles, who resigned from the board in January because he will be a mayoral candidate on this year’s general-election ballot.

An attorney, Harwood served four terms in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2003 to 2010, representing the 65th District, which encompasses the southern portion of Trumbull County.

Fundraiser planned

Local businesses and area residents are rallying around the Ellinos family of Boardman with a fundraiser.

Chryse and Michael Ellinos have two children, Isabella Josephina and Michael Skevos, who have autism. Last May, their father, Michael, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

To help the family with medical costs, a pasta dinner, silent auction and other fundraisers will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at The Embassy, 5030 Youngstown-Poland Road, Youngstown. Tickets are $15, which includes dinner and a chance to win a 42-inch flat-screen television. Killed in crash

HERMITAGE, PA.

A Mercer County man was killed after he crashed while fleeing a hit-and-run accident, police said.

Joshua Castia, 25, Fairview Road, Fredonia, Pa., was pronounced dead at the scene around 7:30 p.m. Sunday on Robertson Road.

Police said they were dispatched to a hit-and-run on East State Street near Robertson. A car was rear-ended in that accident, and no one was injured.

Police said Castia drove off at a high speed, passing a police officer who turned around to follow him. Castia lost control near Cassady Road, police said. The car hit a ditch and rolled over into a field. Castia was thrown from the car.
