Sunday’s Indians/Pirates exhibition baseball

Indians 6, Dodgers 1

GLENDALE, Ariz.

Fausto Carmona wrapped up an excellent spring by pitching Cleveland past Los Angeles in his final tuneup for opening day. Carmona did not allow an earned run in five crisp innings, giving up five hits and one walk while striking out three. The right-hander, set to start Friday against the Chicago White Sox, went 5-2 with a 3.72 ERA this spring to lead the majors in wins. Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley took the loss, allowing two runs and two hits in three innings. Both runs came in the second after he walked Luis Valbuena and hit Adam Everett with a pitch. Michael Brantley hit a grounder inside third for a double that scored both runners.

Pirates 5, Rays 4

BRADENTON, Fla.

Josh Rodriguez scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth, giving Pittsburgh a victory over Tampa Bay. Rodriguez drew a one-out walk off reliever Jeremy Hall, advanced to second on Jose Tabata’s groundout. Pedro Ciriaco hit a sharp roller to third base, and Manuel Mayora’s throw to first was wild allowing Rodriguez to score. Rays catcher John Jaso tied it 4-all in the top of the ninth with a one-out, solo homer off Chris Leroux. Paul Maholm yielded three runs and five hits in five innings. The left-hander walked one and struck out five.
