Monsignor Slaven dies

YOUNGSTOWN

Monsignor Fredrick Slaven, 78, of the Diocese of Youngstown, has died. McClurkin Funeral Home said Saturday that calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Columba Cathedral on Wood Street, downtown.

Monsignor Slaven served his final pastorship in St. Joan of Arc Parish in Streetsboro, to which he was appointed Jan. 1, 1998. He had served as a visiting priest there during the parish’s early years. He retired June 30, 2002., and celebrated his golden jubilee of ordination in 2009 at St. Christine Church here.
