The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce had its quarterly luncheon March 9 and elected members to serve on the board of directors. Elected members are: April Cheney of Signature HomeStyles, Dean Evans of Cortland Banks and Chad McConnell of Hubbard Lumber.

They join board members: City of Hubbard Service Director Lanier Epperson, Amber Babik of Huntington Bank, Fred Hanley of Fred Hanley & Associates and Hubbard Township Trustee, Mary Ann Lark of Hubbard Soaring Eagle, Gary Mayle of Mayle Realty, Marianne Hallapy of The News of Hubbard, Tim Hopkinson of Frankie’s Main Steet Cafe and Al Sauline of Aqua Ohio.

PNC Bank is the newest member of the Ohio Business Lending Clearinghouse network, which allows Ohio’s small businesses to connect with a lender.

“Ohio has seen a recent boom in small-business lending which is a positive sign that our economy is moving in the right direction,” said Mark Kvamme, director of the Ohio Department of Development.

“Small businesses are vital to job creation and we want to foster that growth.”

PNC joins the ranks of other lending institutions such as Fifth Third, Huntington Bank and Key Bank, in an effort to assist Ohio small businesses with potential lending opportunities and business-development resources.

The next Workforce Investment Board meeting will be April 19 at the Dutch Village Inn, state Route 14, Columbiana.

A continental breakfast will be provided at 7:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 8 a.m.

The Mahoning County One-Stop invites those interested in careers as home- health aides to attend a recruitiing event for Comfort Keepers from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the one-stop office, 141 Boardman- Canfield Road.

Comfort Keepers has part-time shifts available at its Youngstown, Warren, East Palestine, East Liverpool, Salem, Damascus and East Rochester locations.

Based in Dayton, Comfort Keepers has provided nonmedical, in-home care since 1997. It operates more than 550 offices worldwide.

Company donates for Japanese relief

The ArcelorMittal Foundation has donated $500,000 to the Japanese Red Cross. The money will aid victims of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11.

The foundation is part of ArcelorMittal, a steel company with operations in 60 countries.

Its Warren location, ArcelorMittal Warren, produces up to 550,000 tons of coke per year.
